Sonoma County
Que Syrah
Here at the southwestern tip of our coastal ridge, evening fog lingers through the morning, often into the middle of the day, giving way to warm sunny afternoons. This two-acre vineyard has the unique reputation as being one of the coolest-climate Syrah plantings in California and for us is the truest expression of coastal Syrah. We farm this mature vineyard ourselves allowing us absolute control of the winegrowing process.
Thieriot Vineyard
The Petaluma Gap is a swath of rolling lowlands running from a coastal mouth near Bodega Bay, eastward toward San Pablo Bay. The fresh marine air drifting from the Pacific Ocean brings with it a cool fog that imparts a delicate temperature and humidity on these vines allowing for a prolonged and gentle ripening period. Much like the Sonoma Coast, this prime winegrowing region has gained recognition for its wonderful and distinctive Pinots. We find it equally suited to growing Syrah. The astonishingly sandy soils of this vineyard give this wine its distinctive character.
Vivio Vineyard
The Bennett Valley is quickly gaining recognition for it’s excellent wines and Syrahs particular. A cool coastal fog flowing between Mt. Taylor and Sonoma Mountain, buffers the valley from the warmer surrounding climate, resulting in a longer growing season with harvest usually falling around mid-October.
Planted in 2003 to the finest clones from The Rhone to Australia, the Vivio Vineyard lies on the flanks of Mt. Taylor at an elevation of 850 feet. With well-drained and diverse rocky soils and meticulous farming, it has proven to be one of the premier vineyards in the appellation.
